Born and raised in the outskirts of São Paulo, advertising wasn’t exactly my first choice. I wanted to be someone between J.K. Rowling and Glenda Kozlowski — a writer, a filmmaker, a sports journalist.

But at 17, my favorite movie was still Spice World: The Movie, and the only stadium I had ever set foot in was the Vila Belmiro Stadium.

So I grabbed my 8th-grade “Best Essay” award, my countless hours spent watching ’90s Brazilian commercials and Capricho magazine columns, and told myself: “Hop in, girl — you’re going to write ads!”

And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing ever since.
